I've been thinking very long and hard about Wednesday’s Amazon Kindle Fire announcement, both before and after the actual event. Although I must say I am surprised that ebooks were not made part of the $79 per year Prime package, the significance of this one device cannot be overlooked. For starters, this device has single handedly rendered just about every Android tablet useless and obsolete. It certainly has made the Blackberry PlayBook seem like a mere afterthought (not that the PlayBook ever gained much traction in the market anyways). Is the Kindle Fire the most amazing piece of hardware ever constructed? No, not by a long shot. The Apple iPad and several other Android-based tablets trump the Kindle Fire in terms of hardware specifications. However, Amazon has one clear advantage over every other competitor (including Apple): CONTENT.
